(CNN)The worst floods in nearly a century have ravaged India's southwestern state of Kerala, leaving more than 300 dead and forcing hundreds of thousands to take shelter in relief camps.

India's National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) reports a "40-50% excess" of monsoon rains this year.The unrelenting downpours are overwhelming dams and triggering landslides.

Over the last two weeks, many of Kerala's rivers overflowed their banks, ruining hundreds of thousands of homes. Rescue workers are using boats and helicopters to find thousands who are still trapped.

Several crowdsourcing sites are raising money to help those affected.

The Kerala Floods Relief Fundraiser was launched by the Kerala Club of Detroit. They are working with district authorities across the state of Kerala to distribute donations. This fund has been verified by GoFundMe.

And Sri Pinarayi Vijayan, the chief minister for the government of Kerala, has launched the Kerala Flood Relief campaign to directly support the recovery efforts.

As Kerala experienced the heaviest rainfall since 1924, millions of people remain stranded in God’s own country. The subsequent flooding has left hundreds of houses damaged, and thousands of families have been forced to take shelter in relief camps. A red alert has been issued in 11 districts as heavy rainfall has been predicted. With over 324 deaths being reported so far, several people are marooned without water, food and other basic necessities.

3. Google Tez: Mobile payments gateway Google Tez has launched a dedicated section

4. Ola: The cab aggregator has announced that for every non-corporate ride that is booked, it will add Rs 5 to the CM's Relief Fund.

5. Google Finder: Google has activated a Person Finder tool for Kerala, which will allow users to track people who are missing. This page also allows one to add information about someone they have found, who have been displaced from their home and family. It has also pin-dropped a list of centres providing rescue operations, including shelters, food and water, medicine and essentials, volunteers, jeep rescue and ambulances, among others.

6.  Facebook: The social media giant has activated its Safety Check feature for Kerala, which can be used to let friends and family know that they are safe. Facebook has also created a crisis response page that shows news and video content from public and media sources related to the flooding.

7. BigBasket: The grocery supplier is allowing buyers to purchase an essential kit of Rs 146 that contains rice, sugar and dal and donate to Delhi-based NGO Goonj.

Khalsa Aid India volunteers in Kerala are coordinating with the Gurdwara Shri Guru Singh Sabha in Kochi to serve cooked hot meals to those affected by the floods.

Diwali, also known as the festival of lights, is the biggest festival celebrated by Hindus, Sikhs and Buddhists around the world.

When is Diwali?

• In the Gregorian calendar, the Diwali festival always falls between mid-October and mid-November. 
• What does it commemorate? 

• Hindus celebrate the triumph of good over evil - of light over darkness - to mark the return of Ram, the lord of virtue, to his kingdom after 14 years of exile.
• Followers of Jainism commemorate Mahavira, a venerated ascetic who fundamentally reformed the faith, reaching a state of nirvana after his death.
• Sikhs use Diwali to mark the anniversary of the release from prison of Guru Hargobind in 1619.
• For Buddhists, this day represents the time Emperor Ashoka gave up everything and adopted a path of peace after going through bloodshed and death. The day is observed as Ashok Vijayadashami. 
• How is it celebrated?

• Traditional earthen diyas or candles are lit, and nowadays, fireworks are set off.

• Houses are cleaned and decorated with colourful rangoli artworks - patterns created on the floor using coloured rice or powder. 

• Throughout India, and in Indian communities, people wear new clothes, visit friends and family, and exchange sweets and gifts.There is also a strong belief in giving to those in need.
• A special "puja" prayer is dedicated to the goddess Lakshmi in the evening. She is said to bring good luck and prosperity.

Dota 2 Short Film Contest

Submissions for the 2017 Dota 2 Short Film Contest are now open, and this year we’ve extended the allowed length of each short film from 60 seconds to 90 seconds. Filmmakers have until the morning of July 25, 2017 to submit their short film creations to the Dota 2 Steam Workshop to be eligible for consideration.

As always, we invite all fans to visit the Workshop to participate in the voting and discussion process to help us select the best entries to be showcased as part of The International 2017 broadcast. Upon review of the Workshop ratings and discussions, Valve will nominate the top entries to be featured in The International 2017 Battle Pass for a final voting process by the community to determine the winners.

Each finalist that places in the top ten will be guaranteed to win $500, and the top three selections will be awarded prizes of $25,000, $10,000, and $5,000 in recognition of their efforts.

Facebook Gets Cooler, Opens A Gigantic Technology Data Centre In The Arctic Circle!

No kidding. The size of 6 football fields, the technology centre is Facebook's latest venture. Located in northern Sweden, just 113 km south of the Arctic Circle, the centre is definitely Zuckerberg's new baby, for it's "the most advanced technology Facebook is building around the world." 
While talking about his new pride, the Luleå data center, Zuckerberg wrote,

"The temperature in the area is below 50 degrees most days, so we use large fans to pull in the outside air to naturally cool the thousands of warm servers that line the center’s broad hallways. A dozen hydro-electric plants operate on nearby rivers, providing a reliable and renewable power source. The whole system is 10% more efficient and uses almost 40% less power than traditional data centers."
